Thai model Mimi Tao, the first trans woman to hit the catwalk on “Project Runway” TV show, talks to us about her favourite destinations and shares her plans for the future.
How did you get involved with “Project Runway”?
I went to audition for Project Runway several times before I was finally chosen to join the show in season 17. I was really thrilled about the chance to be part of this show. It proves to me that where there’s a will, there’s a way.
What is your philosophy towards work?
I’ve done my best for every show of every designer. I can say that I’ve treated all designers equally, no matter how big or small they are. I think it’s important that everyone should be treated with respect. Who knows, small or new designers today may become big names one day.
What is your advice for those who want to work as a professional model in New York like you?
In addition to being physically ready for the job, you have to be patient and persistent. You will get rejected many times before finding success as a professional model. Be prepared for it.
What are your plans for the future?
I would like to try my hand at acting. I’m currently studying acting and taking English lessons to improve my language skills to get ready for it.
What are your favourite destinations?
My favourite destinations are Samui Island (Thailand), Kyoto (Japan), Amsterdam, (Netherlands), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Paris (France). I also dream to visit Egypt someday.
