Baan Salak Kork is a small fishing village tucked away on the east coast of Koh Chang. The fertile mangrove forest here is the island’s largest. It’s so romantic drifting through the forest in a dugout canoe, or ‘rue mard’ in Thai.
A fisherman wearing ‘ngorb’, head gear made from bamboo and palm leaves, rows visitors through canals overhung with trees, ferns and other plants. It’s a great way to admire the natural environment.
The trip lasts about 40 minutes. Best time for rua mard trip: Any time between 8.30 am and 4 pm but when the tide is high the scenery is more beautiful.
