Pride of Phattalung

Travel to the South of Thailand , Greet the romantic first light of the day at Pak Pra. Get a boat to Thale Noi to enjoy watching lotus blossoms and birds and have a close encounter with a herd of water buffaloes.

Visit Thale Noi for bird watching and admire lotus in full bloom

Under the warm sun of an early morning, a boat trip operated by the local community takes visitors out on the vast 30 km2  freshwater lake - one of the world’s mostimportant wetlands - in Thale Noi Waterfowl Reserve.

This ‘little sea’ is home to many permanent and migratory birds, so it is a perfect destination for birdwatchers. Amongst the bright pink lotus blossoms that cover the surface of the lake, you can see the herd of water buffaloes that the villagers allow to roam free in the lake.

  • Long-tailed boat can accommodate up to 7 people. Prices vary, according to distance and length of time, Tel. 0 7468 5230, Visitor Centre, Thale Noi Waterfowl Reserve, Amphoe Khuan Khanun.

Take pleasure in the first light of day

Stay in some cosy accommodation along Pak Pra Canal and get up early for a boat trip to enjoy the first light of day on Songkhla Lake. Pak Pra Canal is widely regarded as the best spot in Thailand to enjoy the beauty of sunrise and witness as nature comes to life each morning. The charming and unique scenery, pride of Phatthalung, is well worth a visit.

Best time for a perfect trip:

  • January to March is the time when migrating birds gather at Thale Noi.
  • February to April is the time when the lotus are at their most beautiful.
