“Hundred Years Between”
Thanpuying Sirikitiya Jensen finds connections between the past and the present among many elements. She explores them through photos taken with an analog camera while retracing the steps of her great-great grandfather, King Chulalongkorn, during his time in Norway a hundred years ago.
Based on the letters King Chulaongkorn wrote to his daughter during his trip, later documented in the book ‘Glai Baan’ (Far From Home), the exhibition captures experiences that bridge the chasm of time and display the connectivity between humans and nature, and amongst human beings. The exhibition also provides a clear picture of the human side of the monarch.
The photos Thanpuying Sirikitiya took shine a different light on the same places, creating parallels between what she and her forbear saw, and capturing spirit rather than form.
The exhibition “Hundred Years Between” celebrates the 115th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Norway and Thailand and was part of Bangkok Design Week 2020.
